With the end of the Regional Stay at Home Order comes new guidance for youth sports in Santa Barbara County. On Jan. 26, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) issued an updated map detailing which sports can resume competing now that the county has reentered the purple tier.

Low-contact sports allowed to compete include cross country, golf, skiing/snowboarding, swimming and diving, tennis and track and field. As for practice, any training that can be conducted outdoors with proper social distancing and safety precautions in place is allowed, including for those sports that cannot yet compete.

The CIF guidelines will continue to be adjusted on a weekly basis, and are subject to change at any time depending on the level of Covid-19 transmission in the state.

Student athletes who test positive for Covid-19 are not permitted to return to practice or competition until they are cleared by a physician, and schools are required to follow all guidelines from their local county and school district. More information is available on cdph.ca.gov.
