I work in the cannabis industry and feel incredibly fortunate that our local farmers had the courage to be pioneers in this newly emerging industry. As a 25-year-old, I don’t know if I’d be able to live in my home town without the professional opportunity provided by this new industry.

Among my many responsibilities, I work every day to make sure our company follows all regulations and is on track to get to the finish line of state and county licensing. Sometimes this process seems endless. We open the doors to state and county agencies all the time. Our businesses are under microscopes. However, we support the transparency brought on by these regulations. We believe it’s necessary to stabilize the cannabis farming industry and eliminate the black market. I take pride in making sure our farm is ahead of the curve both from a compliance standpoint, and as a farm and business.

It’s exciting to be part of something new. It’s also challenging. I know most people in Carpinteria see cannabis farming the same way we always saw flower farming—as a local industry that’s a big part of our economy and the agricultural backbone of our area. Agriculture is in our DNA, and these greenhouses are built to grow ag products.

To the few who are ashamed that cannabis is grown in Carpinteria, I say, it’s legal, well regulated, and a great opportunity that shouldn’t be squandered.
