4/15/1943 – 7/20/2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Ronald Ray Crawford, at age 78. He passed with his family by his side at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on July 20, 2021.
Born to Vivian and Marvin Crawford in Anaheim, California, Ron graduated Anaheim High School in 1961 and went on to be a roofer by trade. He soon married his high school sweetheart, Norma Kinsey, and they had three sons. Even after divorce, Ron and Norma remained friends and cherished their relationship.
Ron was an adventurous person with a zest for life and its beauty. His spirituality led him to an interest in religion, following Christian and Buddhist teachings, always making sure to be kind to people no matter what their walk in life. He went on to travel the world, usually ending up somewhere tropical. He especially loved the humid air and salty sea of the Bahamas, Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii. He had a deep love of the ocean and made sure his boys grew up loving it like he did. He got them out surfing, fishing, swimming and free diving in some of the world’s most beautiful places. He also enjoyed playing and watching tennis.
Ron loved Carpinteria, where his family’s historical roots kept him coming back. Ron eventually made this beautiful town his permanent home of more than four decades, until his passing. He had a smile for everyone and loved the people of Carpinteria. His family appreciates the long-lasting friendships he made which meant everything to him, especially in his older years.
Ron is survived by his three sons, Jeff, Darrin and Eric and his two grandchildren, Aaron (32) and Holly (22), all of whom he was very proud and adored dearly. Ron will be loved and cherished through memory and spirit.
A Life Celebration will be held at Carpinteria Beach on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We’ll be paddling out at noon, so bring your boards or just join us on the beach for music and reminiscing about Ron’s life.
