It is with great sorrow to announce that Mary Ann Garibay passed away peacefully on Dec. 5, 2019, at Sarah House in Santa Barbara. She was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on Feb. 5, 1955. Mary Ann spent her childhood growing up in Carpinteria, her young adult years in Santa Barbara, and her later years in Santa Maria. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and auntie. Mary Ann was a strong spirited and passionate woman who will be deeply missed.

Mary Ann was one of five children born to the late Henry “Zapas” and Mary Ellen “Chambi” Garibay. Mary Ann is survived by her siblings Henry “Kiki” Garibay and wife Nancy; Tony Garibay and wife Natalie; Diane Gahan and husband Kevin Gahan; and youngest sibling David Garibay and wife Maria.

Mary Ann was proceeded in death by her first love, Arthur Villanueva. Together they had three children and she is survived by her son Eli Villanueva, his wife Denise, and her grandsons Koa and Ezra; her daughter Stephanie Villanueva and grandson Joseph Lopez; and her daughter Jamie Villanueva. Maryann was lucky in love a second time in life and is also survived by her partner James Hill and their son Clayton James Hill.

Mary Ann’s family is very appreciative of the Sarah House Family, and they request any desired memorial donations be made to the Sarah house in Mary Ann’s honor. Sarah House Santa Barbara, 2612 Modoc Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93105.

Mary Ann comes from a big family in Carpinteria and her life will live in the memories and hearts of her loved ones. She is remembered for her beautiful smile and her love of dancing. Her children would like for you to think of her now, “walking on sunshine.”

In memory of Mary Ann, a Rosary will be at Holy Cross Church, 1740 Cliff Drive, Santa Barbara, on Thursday, Dec. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross on Friday, Dec. 27 at 10 a.m. followed by a service at Calvary Cemetery, 199 Hope Ave., Santa Barbara.
