Norman and Mary Cota with Dianne and Terry Moore visited the Alaskan coastline on a seven-day cruise. The Tongass National Forest covers most of Southeast Alaska and was designated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1902. The Tlingit people (which translates to “the people of the tides”) comprise many distinct tribes throughout the vast region. The southern parts of the Tongass are also the homelands of the Haida and Tsimshian peoples.
