Weekend beach goers enjoyed expansive beaches during last weekend’s low tides which rolled out during the peak glow of a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon. Families met up for their typical surf and sun activities with plenty of room to roam. Longing for a little low-tide playtime? This weekend’s tide tables indicate low tides at Carpinteria’s beaches on Saturday at 4:25 a.m. and 6:35 p.m., and Sunday at 5:15 a.m. and 7:40 p.m.
Low tide means walking among the fishes, birds and mollusks.

Todd Schwartz waits for the fish to bite in style, soaking up rays and an expanse of low-tide sand at Carpinteria State Beach on Sunday, Nov. 10. With a 0.5 tide at 2:35 p.m., beachgoers and tide-poolers enjoyed all-too-brief access to sand and reef before the tide flooded in again near dark. Schwartz caught a small sand shark but threw it back.
Joanna Bell and Franchesca Washburn were still smiling after the dolphin encounter. They were laying on the front of the boat with their hands in the water and could actually touch their smooth skin.
Skimming the shimmering water is Mila Martins.
