La Conchita

Smoke from smoldering vegetation hovers over Island View Ranch on the east edge of La Conchita, where over a dozen horses were evacuated on the night of Dec. 5.

The Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District is initiating the process of updating the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), last updated in 2013.

A CWPP is a community-based plan that assesses the community’s exposure and vulnerabilities to wildfire threats, serves to guide the community to reduce the wildfire threat and opens opportunities for federal funding to help fund implementation of the plan.

The fire district encourages stakeholders, including affected property owners/residents, business owners, government and non-government agencies and organizations to participate.

Stakeholder meetings and public workshops are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Girls Inc., 5315 Foothill Road, Carpinteria, and Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at QAD, 1000 Innovation Place, Summerland.

“We look forward to working with you to make our community safer and more resilient to wildfire,” stated the fire district in a press release.
