Holiday shoppers filled the Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center courtyard for the Artists Marketplace on Dec. 1. Local artisans offered an eclectic array of handcrafted gifts for sale, along with coffee, music and art activities. Among the gifts available, were julenisse, Danish Christmas gnomes by Karin Petersen, a native of Denmark. In Scandinavian tradition, julenisse bring good fortune, sometimes even helping Santa build and deliver his gifts (kind of like elves).
