Laura Capps has announced her candidacy for First District Supervisor.

On Aug. 27, Santa Barbara School Board Member and Democratic party memberLaura Capps announced her candidacy for First District Supervisor, which represents the Carpinteria Valley. Capps will be running against incumbent Das Williams, a Carpinteria-based Democrat. Capps describes her prior work as “providing opportunities for working families, fighting for immigration reform, forging a more environmentally sustainable future and supporting the rights of all people.” In addition to the Santa Barbara School Board, Capps has held leadership positions on the Community Environmental Council, the Parenthood Action Fund, the Interfaith Initiative, the Santa Barbara County Women’s Commission, No Kid Hungry and Ocean Conservancy.

Capps’ political experience also includes serving as a speechwriter for President Bill Clinton, communications director for Senator Ted Kennedy and a senior aide to 2004 Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

Capps lives in Santa Barbara with her son, Oscar, her mom, Lois, and her two dogs, Lilly and Sunflower.

Where was everybody? The Only Concerned Carpinterians I saw were Bobbie Offen and Louise Bardach. This Campaign will be even more divisive here than the failed County Cannabis Campaign has been and I have a wager for anyone interested, Das by a decisive margin. As much money as you want to wager. You have 6 months to think about it.
