Exactly 445 people signed up for the Summer Reading Program at the Carpinteria Library this year. Over the summer the library has celebrated the anniversary of the moon landing, explored robotics at a children’s book club meeting and experimented with different art techniques in the Storybook Art program. Kids’ favorite book selections have been “The Wild Robot” by Peter Brown, “Unicorns are Real” by Holly Hatam and “Wolf Hollow” by Lauren Wolk.

The last day for participants to register in the reading program is Thursday, Aug. 1, and Monday, Aug. 8, is the last day to pick up prizes. Many local businesses and organizations have enhanced the Summer Reading Program, including: the Carpinteria Arts Center, Friends of the Carpinteria Library, Jack’s Bistro, Lucky Llama, McDonalds, Pacific Health Foods, Padaro Beach Grill, The Palms, Rincon Designs, Robitaille’s Candies, The Spot, Taco Grande, Uncle Chen, United Studios of Self Defense and Zookers Restaurant.
