Alex Kempton took leave of Carpinteria for a flight over the Pacific to Kailua Bay, Kona, Hawaii in May. Kempton was on the big island visiting his brother-in-law Bruce Corker who owns Rancho Aloha coffee farm in Holualoa, Kona, Hawaii. Known for its snorkeling and swimming, Kailua Bay is also the starting point for the Ironman triathlon, and was the site of one of King Kamehameha’s homes. A temple there remains off limits to visitors.
