The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted many aspects of life in Carpinteria. The city is making efforts to connect the public with information about these impacts on its new website, carpinteriahub.com. The following updates have been posted as of April 8.
Public parks, trails and beaches
Public parks, trails and beaches remain open to the public, but social distancing must be practiced in these spaces. City playgrounds and barbecue areas are currently closed. Some public parking lots have been closed to discourage over-crowding.
Residents who witness public gatherings in violation of social distancing orders are encouraged to contact Code Compliance Supervisor Ron Alonzo at (805) 755-4408 or the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office at (805) 683-2724 .
Carpinteria State Beach
California State Parks has suspended all camping reservations until further notice. Camping is closed at Carpinteria State Beach, but day use facilities are currently open. Visit parks.ca.gov/FlattenTheCurve for ongoing updates.
Both of Carpinteria’s grocery stores are open and have designated shopping hours for seniors and the immunosuppressed:
Albertsons, 7 to 9 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays
Smart & Final, 7:30 to 8 a.m. daily.
Carpinteria Unified School District
All CUSD school sites are closed and will reopen when state and local authorities deem it safe to do so.

The Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center
The Arts Center is offering free virtual art activities online. Visit carpinteriaartscenter.org.
Carpinteria Branch Library
All branches of the Santa Barbara Library System are closed until further notice. Book drops are also closed. Through a pilot program, library card holders can order up to four library items that will be delivered to their door. Library card holders can also stream and download content through the website, which also offers learning at home resources for parents and children.
Freedom Warming Centers have suspended their services due to the risks of Covid-19 spreading within a vulnerable population.
Carpinteria Health Care Center
The Carpinteria Clinic is still operating and serving patients with essential needs. Patients should call before visiting the clinic at 931 Walnut Ave. in order to ensure staff members are prepared to receive them. Call (805) 560-1050 for more information.
City of Carpinteria Code Compliance officers are not ticketing vehicles parked in areas posted for street sweeping and timed parking (with the exception of 72-hour parking limits). Enforcement of disabled parking, red, yellow, and passenger loading zones will continue during this period. Enforcement of timed parking and street sweeping restrictions is expected to recommence on May 4.
Department of Motor Vehicles
The California DMV has asked California law enforcement to exercise discretion when enforcing driver license and vehicle registration expiration dates for members of the vulnerable population for 60 days beginning March 16. The DMV is taking this action so that at-risk populations can avoid required visits to DMV field offices for driver license or vehicle registration renewals.
Metropolitan Transportation District (MTD)
MTD is offering no fee services during the pandemic. Currently Carpinteria bus line 20 remains in service, but the Seaside Shuttle was removed from service until further notice. Visit sbmtd.gov for updates.
The Pacific Surfliner that operates between San Luis Obispo and San Diego is now running on a reduced schedule. The most up-to-date schedules are available when booking a trip on Amtrak.com and in the mobile app.
HELP of Carpinteria
HELP has temporarily suspended its transportation service in order to follow the governor’s orders to social distance. HELP has entered into a partnership with Easy Lift to provide its riders with services. Call (805) 681-1181 to schedule services.
Easy Lift Transportation
Easy Lift is continuing to provide transportation services for people with limited mobility. Call (805) 681-1181 or visit easylift.org
Items intended for solid waste pick-up that are outside of bins may not be collected. This effort will allow haulers to remain in their vehicles, thus reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
Carpinteria Post Office
The Carpinteria Post Office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
