CSSC surfers do well at ISF Channel Section Ventura competition |

Photo: Cuttin’ it back. Bryan Schmidt placed second in the men’s longboard competition at the ISF Channel Section high school surf contest. The contest was held at C-Street in Ventura last Sunday, Dec. 14.
Schdmidt also placed fifth in the men’s shortboard competiton.
Sunday, Dec, 14, the Carpinteia Scholastic Surf Club (CSSC) middle school and high school surfers particpated in the ISF Channel Section Ventura competition.
Surfers from Santa Monica to Goleta, ripped it up at the Pipe at Ventura Point. Although rainy at times, the competitors were treated to good overhead surf for the entire competition.
All the CSSC surfers surfed great with several making their way to the finals.
Middle school highlights included Andrew Soong’s first place in the body board competition; Cloe Talavera’s second place finish in the girls short board competition and Kokoro Tomatsuri finishing in fourth place in the boys short board.
In the high school division Bryan Schmidt powered his way to second place in the long board and fifth place in the short board competition.
Tim Pfannenstiel was narrowly defeated and earned a second place finish in the hotly contested short board final.
In team competition, Santa Monica defeated Carpinteria, 45-42. Dos Pueblos defeated San Marcos, 67-62 and Palisades defeated Villanova, 69-57.
