Carpinteria High School did not hold classes on Tuesday and Wednesday due to knocked down power poles and lines on Foothill Road in front of the campus. Monday night’s high winds caused the damage. Traffic was detoured while repairs were made.

No part of Carpinteria escaped the wind’s wrath. The southbound 101 was closed through Carpinteria backing up traffic into late Tuesday morning, while northbound traffic was slowed and overflowed onto area surface streets (above). Felled trees littered streets, damaged cars and broke rooftops. According to the National Weather Service, the Northwest winds were 30 to 40 m.p.h. with frequent gusts over 55 m.p.h. The weather forecast for the weekend is mostly sunny skies with a high around 70. No wind is predicted.
