California Gold Ballroom Dance Studio

Vasily Golovan and Diane Meehan perform at the new California Gold Ballroom Dance Studio at 4647 Carpinteria Ave.

There was magic in the air last month when California Gold Ballroom Dance Studio held its grand opening “Ballroom Blitz,” a spirited holiday showcase of different ballroom dance styles. The event, held on Dec. 15, included a ribbon cutting hosted by the Carpinteria Valley Chamber of Commerce and a social hour. Attendees enjoyed champagne and hors d’oeuvres before the 70-minute jaw-dropping performance began.

The Ballroom Dance Studio specializes in ballroom dance instruction for all ages and levels, wedding dances, national and local dance performances, as well as dancesport competitions. Diane Meehan, who owns Dadiana Salon Montecito, founded the studio because she wanted to bring an elegant ballroom dance studio to Carpinteria. Meehan is a national Dancesport Pro/Am champion who has competed in all dance styles including Latin and Ballroom. California Gold is 2,400 square feet with a world class floating dancefloor imported from Denmark, wall sconces, Swarovski Crystal Chandeliers, custom lighting, a sound system and a live stream movie theater.

The studio’s lead instructor, choreographer and artistic director, Vasily Golovin, came to this country in 2010 from St. Petersburg, Russia after studying ballet, classical and modern ballroom dance. An award-winning dancer and choreographer, Golovin started dancing at the age of nine and won his first title at the age of 11.
