Teahouse and azaleas

Explore the tranquil Japanese-style garden that blends design elements from four classic garden styles.

The Carpinteria Valley Historical Society will lead an excursion to Descanso Gardens in La Cañada-Flintridge on Thursday, April 9, leaving at 8 a.m. and returning at 5 p.m. This 160-acre oasis contains forests, streams, a lake, a bird sanctuary, hiking trails, a 22-room mansion, a gift shop, café court gardens and a Japanese teahouse and koi pond. Garden highlights include over five acres of roses, 100 varieties of lilacs, and the world’s largest collection of over 100,000 camellias comprised of 400 varieties.

The cost of the trip for Historical Society members is $49 and $59 for non-members, and includes bus transportation, admission to the gardens, and refreshments aboard the bus. A no-host lunch is available at the Descanso Café with beautiful patio dining. For reservations or more information, call David at (805) 684-3112, visit carpinteriahistoricalmuseum.org or stop by the museum front desk at 956 Maple Ave.
