Folly owner Alyssa Remington sits for a face painting by Mia Marie Handley of Mia Marie Jewelry.

Inspired by Day of the Dead and all of the wonderful things that come from south of the border, the shops, Porch, Folly and Bonita Beach, are collaborating in celebration of Día de los Muertos with two workshops on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Porch, 3823 Santa Claus Lane.

Participants are invited to bring photos or an offering to add to the altar that curators will create for the event. A makers and artists market will have wares and vintage goods for sale, and face painting, kids crafts and tarot readings will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. From 4 to 6 p.m. twinkling lights, live music and libations will be added to the continuing marketplace.

Two Otami (traditional Oaxacan embroidery in brightly colored nature motifs) workshops will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The cost is $75 per person, and each participant will receive a set of linoleum carving tools, two linoleum blocks for carving and two kitchen towels to block print during the workshop. For more information, or to reserve a spot in the workshops, call Porch at (805) 684-0300.
