Tammy Gilkey

A painting by Carpinteria artist Tammy Gilkey serves as the cover image for an art auction catalog to benefit local businesses impacted by Covid-19.

While feeling grateful to still have her job as a graphic designer working for LinkedIn, Tammy Gilkey—who is also a painter—realized that she didn’t need the extra income that her artwork provides as much as local businesses do. Gilkey contacted other artists in the community and received eight donations. Together they have raised $945 in the three weeks the auction has been running via the website 32auctions.com/artforcarp.

So far, donations have been made to Tidepools, Seastrand Clothing, Rincon Brewery, and Robitaille’s Candies. “My hope is to raise money for every small business in town,” Gilkey said. “I know it’s a lofty one, but in the last three weeks I’ve seen what Carpinteria can do.” Art donations can be sent to tmgilkey@msn.com.
